ABOUT US 

The BSEF is a volunteer, not-for-profit corporation, incorporated under the laws of the State of New York and registered with the Office of the New York State Attorney General, Bureau of Charities and has a 501(c)(3) designation by the IRS. This organization's success is due to the dedicated group of volunteers that donate their time, energy and skills to raising and distributing funds for educational enrichment outside the realm of the daily operational needs of the Ballston Spa Central School District.

BOARD OF DIRECTORS

Karen Barone

President

Karen joined the board in February 2016 after living in Ballston Spa for just over a year and a half. Karen is a sociologist and market researcher who’s worked in public media and education for nearly two decades. She graduated from Brandeis University and was awarded a MA from Boston College. She’s taught undergrads at Emerson College and Boston College and has co-authored Harvard Business School case studies. Karen lives in the Village of Ballston Spa with her husband and son.

Betsy Seplowitz

Vice President /Acting President

Betsy has been a resident of Ballston Spa for 10 years.  Betsy's professional background is in higher education development and donor relations.  She and her husband, Eric, have a son at Milton Terrace North Elementary School and a daughter, not yet in school.  Betsy is an active member of the MTN PTA.  In her free time, Betsy enjoys gardening, canoeing and reading.

Stephanie Lamphere

Secretary

Stephanie is a Malta resident with one child attending Gordon Creek Elementary School. She is an active community volunteer and currently serves as President of the Gordon Creek PTA. With a background that includes marketing and journalism, and extensive experience in special event planning and grant writing, Stephanie currently works in higher education fundraising as a member of the Advancement office at SUNY Empire State College in Saratoga Springs. She has degrees from Hamilton College in Clinton, NY and the University at Albany.

Christa Davis

Christa has been a resident of the school district for 17 years. She is a graduate of SUNY Albany and lives with her husband, Jason, in Malta. Her oldest daughter graduated in 2014 and her other daughter is currently in middle school. She has been an active member of various PTAs in the district, a Girl Scout Leader and Recruiter, and has served in executive positions of both of those organizations. She has also volunteered with booster clubs, service clubs, and various other charitable organizations.

Rana Hughes

Rana joined the board in 2015 and has lived in Ballston Spa for 12 years with her husband and two children. She has taught at Dorothy Nolan Elementary School for 17 years and is currently teaching 3rd grade. Rana is involved with the PTA at both the elementary and middle school level and volunteers for as many school events as possible. She enjoys getting involved with her community and does donate her time to other charitable organizations.

Kim Lambert 

joined the BSEF board in September 2007. She is a 1994 graduate of BSHS. Kim is head of the Imprintable Sportswear Division at Walton’s Sport Shop in Saratoga Springs, NY. She received her BS degree from Rochester Institute of Technology in Environmental Management and Technology and is working on her MRP in Urban Planning at the University of Albany. Kim is very active in the Saratoga Springs Junior Chamber, where she was the 2007 Chapter President. She is also on her second year on the National Awards Committee with the United States Junior Chamber, founding member of Junior Chamber International.

Vicki Schaake

Vicki has lived in Ballston Spa for 18 years. She and her husband have one son attending Wood Road Elementary School, and a younger son in preschool. She is a graduate of Hartwick College and has been in the higher education development field for 20 years. Vicki is the Director of Advancement Services at SUNY Empire State College in Saratoga Springs.
